Chapter 3: Disciplines[edit]

I've fought many martial adepts - some trained by Reshar, some not. Consider this a compilation of everything I have witnessed, experienced and defeated.

- Asher

Don't fool yourself, Asher - you couldn't have gone through half of what you've described here.

- Arminius

Martial disciplines are set apart by their maneuvers, which are what give them their primary capabilities. Nine new disciplines are given here, along with their maneuvers.

New rules[edit]

In order to make use of the content here, some additional rules are required. These are described on the following pages.

Name Description
Adaptive Style Errata Reworking the poorly thought out prerequisites on a feat to allow for future classes.
Cross-Discipline Maneuvers Maneuvers that belong to more than one school.
Maneuver-Like Abilities Some creatures have inherent use of martial maneuvers.
Rushes Tome of Battle has maneuvers for most of the major action types: Strikes for standard/full-round, boosts for swift, and counters for immediate. What about some things for move actions?
Scaling Maneuvers Maneuvers that deal d6 damage scale with level, as spells.
Stone Dragon Errata Allowing Stone Dragon users the ability not to be shut down in places without a ground to stand.
Uncentered Unable to use martial stances.

Expanded disciplines[edit]

Not all disciplines were born equal, and thus, to rectify this problem, more maneuvers have been made for them. You can find them in their respective section:

List of Complete Sublime disciplines[edit]

The following is a table with all new disciplines added in this book. Some of these disciplines are made available to classes that don't list them in their description, this means that you may substitute them for a different discipline they had available to them (unless stated otherwise).

Example: Amaranth Eclipse is available to "Any" class, so when taking the first level of Sublime Knight (whose available disciplines are: Devoted Spirit, Iron Heart, Stone Dragon and White Raven) you can forgo one of your available disciplines (let's say, Stone Dragon) and replace it with Amaranth Eclipse (so your available disciplines end up being: Devoted Spirit, Iron Heart, Amaranth Eclipse and White Raven). You will no longer have access to any of the Stone Dragon features in any of your future levels in this class.

Name Class Description
Aerial Ace Any Created by raptorians who fought many battles in the sky with other flying foes and monsters below, the aerial ace discipline teaches the art of battling in 3 dimensions, using one's wings in combat, and employing the supernatural forces of wind at your side.
Amaranth Eclipse Any An orc martial adept with terrible strength and repulsive visage combined the two with their orc heritage to create a discipline that completely disregards defense in battle, breaking the opponents attacks with sheer terror and strength.
Anima River Swordsage Monks and incarnates who sought power through enlightement and spirituality found ways to understand and train their soul as one would their body. In times of battle, this allows them to strike at the invisible flow of life and wound their opponents most grievously.
Black Rain Any And just as the sword had its true masters, the martial adepts of the Sublime Way, so too might the gun find its exalted wielders, martial adepts of the tenth path, the discipline of Black Rain. An art of finesse and ruthless power, the Black Rain discipline promises its wielders the true power of the gun.
Blood Feast Crusader, Swordsage Designed by those who survive on blood, the blood feast discipline learns how to weaponize their own blood and the blood of others by opening grievous wounds from which vitality can leak through.
Coin's Edge Swordsage Single-handedly created by the legendary Uther Doul, this is a rarely practiced dicipline. It utilises an esoteric form of magic known as probability magic, allowing its followers to alter the flow of chance, bringing things that might have been into reality.
Dancing Goddess Crusader, Swordsage Twirling in battle to the beat of some primal heart, the Dancing Goddess style lets you dance across the battlefield, dodging blows and countering with whirling blades in perfect dizzying tempo.
Domestic Tarrasque Any When it comes to those delicate items your opponents are wielding, you're like a Tarrasque in a potion shop. While other disciplines focus on getting you places and killing people, the Domestic Tarrasque discipline helps you get over people and destroy objects.
Eloquent Speech Any Your flowery words and warmongering speeches bring others to your side, and occasionally help you in combat, too.
Essential Cut Carnage Zealot. The discipline of those martial adepts who wield the magic of Incarnum.
Golem Heart Any Created by warforged during the wars they were built to serve in, this maneuver was later adopted for use by organic races as well as the constructs who originally created them.
Infinite Lotus Any A discipline of esoteric mathematics, philosophy and reality-and-mind-bending power.
Ravenous Succubi Swordsage, Scoundrel The disciples of the Ravenous Succubi are expert in both deception and a secret technique allowing you to drink you opponents's very lifeforce.
Surreptitious Bandit Any Created by masters of burglary and stealth, Surreptitious Bandit is an extraordinary discipline for the art of sneaking around.
Thousand Daggers Swordsage, Warblade The thousand dagger school trained with small slashing and piercing weapons, using their small size and easy concealing in deadly assassinations, as well as mobility training to stay light on one's feet or to flee the scene.
Wild Moon Any The Wild Moon discipline channels the power of the moon and its power over lycanthropy, madness, and the primal dark.
