Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Psychothanatian.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Psychothanatians are proficient with the club, dagger, heavy crossbow, light crossbow, quarterstaff, and shortspear. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield. Armor does not, however, interfere with the manifestation of powers.

Power Points/Day: A Psychothanatian’s ability to manifest powers is limited by the power points he has available. Her base daily allotment of power points is given on Table: Psychothanatian. In addition, she receives bonus power points per day if he has a high Charisma score (see Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points). Her race may also provide bonus power points per day, as may certain feats and items.

Powers Known: A psychothanatian begins play knowing three powers of her choice. Each time she achieves a new level, she unlocks the knowledge of new powers.

The number of times a psychothanatian can manifest powers in a day is limited only by her daily power points. If one of the psychothanatian's power has the [Mind] she may manifest it as a [mind-affecting] power at her option.

A psychothanatian simply knows her powers; they are ingrained in her mind. She does not need to prepare them (in the way that some spellcasters prepare their spells), though she must get a good night’s sleep each day to regain all her spent power points.

The Difficulty Class for saving throws against psychothanatian powers is 10 + the power’s level + the psychothanatian’s Charisma modifier. Psychothanatian choose their powers from the following list:

Maximum Power Level Known: This column determines the highest level power a Psychothanatian can learn at this level.

To learn or manifest a power, a Psychothanatian must have an Charisma score of at least 10 + the power’s level.

Psychosomatic Harm (Ex): A psychothanatian specialize in inflicting harm and death through the conscious mind of her target. Whenever a psychothanatian use a [Mind-Affecting] which deal damage (such as mind thrust and later through her mindkiller ability), if the psychothanatian is psionically focused she deal an extra amount of damage equal to her class level.

Thanatian Touch (Su): Through a mix of telepathy and psychometabolism, a psychothanatian can inflict lethal wounds with a simple touch. As a standard action she may make a touch attack against a living creature or a creature vulnerable to mind-affecting effect, dealing 1d4 + her Charisma modifier in damage. This ability count as a [mind-affecting] effect whenever advantageous.

Avoid Death (Ex): A 2nd level psychothanatian's body is able to survive past the point of no return for many. A psychothanatian add her class level to the amount of negative hit point before she does, additionally she automatically stabilize while dying.

At 8th level, if the psychothanatian dies if she had at least as many power points left in her pool equal to three times her hit dice, she may bring herself back to life. She is raised as per raise dead with no level loss but the same limitation. This is a nonaction which may be performed within the normal time frame of raise dead.

At 16th level the psychothanatian no longer age and she does not dies of old age. She retain any aging bonus or penalties she still accrued.

Death Wilding (Ex): A 2nd level psychothanatian's draw energy from death, either through euphoric pleasure or grim resonance. She gain Oversurge as a bonus feat. The psychothanatian may negate any bleed dealt by the feat by expending her psionic focus as long as she killed a creature with an Int score of 3 or more last round. She still suffer the risk of instantaneous bleedout.

Neurozombie (Su): When a Psychothanatian of 3rd level or higher slay a creature with a mind-affecting effect she may expand he psionic focus and 3 power points. If she does she keep the neuron of the creature firing, but under her control. This effectively turn the creature into a simple zombie without the single action limitation. The neuron quickly deteriorate and the corpse will cease animation 5 rounds after this ability is activated.

A 9th level Psychothanatian can spend an additional 6 powers when creating a Neurozombie, if she does it is capable of using all of it class features, using it former mental ability scores for the purpose the determining ability's DCs, potency and similar factor.

Gravelink (Su): A 4th level Psychothanatian possess a powerful telepathic link with any undead she control, allowing them to communicate with any undead she created (including neurozombies) as mindlink, mindless undead receive and obey order but are unable to respond to the Psychothanatian. If she know sense link she can manifest it on any of her undead, with unlimited range.

Living Zombie (Ex): A 5th level Psychothanatian can disguise any number of zombies under her control as per an unaugmented psychic disguise into their living self. While disguised, the zombies talk in their living voice with similar mannerism but have no real recollection or memories of their former self. A creature may make a DC 25 Sense Motive to find that something is wrong, but a creature familiar with the zombie do not require any of such check. This ability require a standard action to activate but can be dismissed as a free action.

Philosophical Zombie (Su): When a 5th level Psychothanatian create a Neurozombie she may elect to keep the creature alive. The creatures become a simple zombie as per the Neurozombie class feature but it type does not change. The creature essentially become mindless for the duration. Once the duration of the Neurozombie effect end, the creature return to it previous state at -1 hit point but stable, then it take any damage it zombie self took, potentially killing it if not healed before the reversion. This count as a [Compulsion] effect, but ignore any immunities to compulsion the creature may have had.

Mindkiller (Ex): A Psychothanatian is a master of destroying the mind after she uses it, at 6th level and higher whenever one of her [Compulsion] power's duration elapse or if it dismissed, she may have the affected take 1d6 damage for each power points spent on it. If she successfully use a [Mind-Affecting]] effect which deal no damage (such as read thoughts) she may deal 1 point of damage per power point spent when the power end.

If the effect which triggered mindkiller had no save, the target is allowed a Will (DC 10 + Power Level + Charisma modifier) to negate the damage from mindkiller.

Neuropathic Touch (Ex): When a 7th level Psychothanatian inflict a powerful revulsion of death in her opponent, upon successfully deliver her Thanatian Touch on a creature vulnerable to mind-affecting effect she may have it make a Will save or take 1 daunt levels and become At Bay from the Psychothanatian for 1 round. A successful save negate both effect but not the damage.

At 13th level she may have it inflict a 1 youthdrain level instead of daunt on a failed Will save. Each younthdrain inflicted by this ability reduce the creature's effective HD by 1 for the purpose of daunt.

At 19th level she may overload her touch as a full-round action, inflicting 1d6 daunt and youthdrain levels. A successful Will save prevent all but 1 level of both daunt and youthdrain.

Subconscious Reach (Ex): Whenever a psychothanatian of 10th level use a [mind-affecting] effect on creature immune to mind-affecting effect, she still has a 50% chance of affecting her normally. If an effect last for more than 1 round, there is only a 50% chance of not being affected by any of such effect each round. A mindless creature is still fully immune to your mind-affecting effect.

Psychogenic Deathlink (Su): A 11th level a Psychothanatian can cause a creature to die by psionically linked their psyche. As a 1 round action, she can forcefully link a creature within 30 feet to believe that if a certain action is performed they will die. The creature is allowed a Will save to negate the effect, otherwise they become convinced that the action will cause their death for the next 10 minutes.

The action itself could be them snapping their finger, breaking the neck of a doll that represent them or cutting a string that represent their life, if the Psychogenic Death does not include representative object the DC of this ability decrease by 2. The creature is aware that the result of this action will result in their death. The action to kill the creature can be performed as a move action, if successful the creature immediately die. The creature must be aware that the action is undertaken, if it is done without them knowing about it the ability is wasted. This is a [Compulsion] [Mind-Affecting] [Death] effect.

If a creature successfully save against Psychogenic Deathlink it is immune to it for 24 hours.

Akashic Backup (Su): A 12th level Psychothanatian can create a temporary memory clone of herself in the akashic records as a standard action once per day. The clone is temporary and unconscious and fade away 1 hour per level after it creation or upon being used. If the Psychothanatian dies while her clone is in existence and is revived (usually through her Avoid Death ability) the akashic clone enters her body in addition to her soul. The Psychothanatian regain any memories, power points, power known as well as any mind-affecting effect that she had at the time of the clone's creation instead of those she had upon times of death. She retain any new memories she formed as well. The formation of an akashic clone is prevented if any amount of quintessence being within 5 feet of of the Psychothanatian.

If well-timed this can even reverse her Death of Self mental self destruction.

At 18th level if the Psychothanatian dies while the clone is in existence it does not fade away, as her soul join the akashic clone instead of going to her afterlife. In addition of granting essentially unlimited time for the revival, the Psychothanatian exist in a mindscape limbo as an akashic ghost. Once per day her akashic ghost may send a dream, usually to attempt to engineer her revival.

Death of Self (Su): A 12th level Psychothanatian can briefly erase her own sense of self to protect herself from a mind-affecting effect. As a response of falling under a mind-affecting effect she may use Death of Self to negate it. This leave her dazed for 1 round and make her lose a number of power point as if she took 1d4 negative levels, as the experience is very taxing on her mind.

As full-round action a Psychothanatian can destroy all trace of her personality and memories as per identity death. If she does she send a powerful psychic shockwave which deal 2d10 damage per class level to all creatures within 120 feet. A successful Will (DC 10 + 1/2 Class Level + Charisma modifier) save halves damage. This ability deal half damage to mindless living creature and has no effect on non-living mindless creature. This ability can only be triggered by the willing psychothanatian.

Death is an Illusion (Su): At 14th level a Psychothanatian 's mind remain in her body for 1 round after death, even if her body is otherwise destroyed. On her initiative next round she may take 1 round worth of purely mental action, such as manifesting powers and or creating an akashic clone. She count a still being in the square her body occupy (or occupied if it was destroyed).

Psychological Finality (Ex): A 15th level Psychothanatian can imprint finality in the target's mind as she kill them, the target is allowed a Will save to negate the effect. If it succeed the target become unwilling to return from the dead. This can be undone by a reality revision or by freeing the victom, soul of the compulsion directly in the afterlife. This is a [mind-affecting] [compulsion] effect.

Ego Death: A 17th level Psychothanatian can manifest a new power which behave exactly as the identity death spell at the cost of 17 power points. She may augment this new power by paying additional power point to raise the maximum hit point of the affected target by 10 per power point spent. This behave exactly as manifesting a power and do not count against the psychothanatian's power known.
