Ashe's Spell Seizure

One of the first major spells developed by Ashe, it was famously used by her as the main component of her (quite literal) defence of her MMPhil against open challenge. It creates a ray of white energy that attacks prepared or bodily magical energies, causing them to burn away.

If the caster succeeds at a ranged touch attack with the ray, the struck creature loses one use of its highest-level spell-like ability, its highest-level spell slot, or its highest-level prepared spell. Other than this restriction, the creature struck by the ray chooses which slot, spell or spell-like ability use is lost. Additionally, the creature must succeed on a Will save or be dealt damage equal to the level of the slot, spell or spell-like ability lost, and then lose another use of a spell-like ability, or another spell slot, or another prepared spell, as per the rules above. A spell-like ability without levels is considered to have a level equal to one-half of its user's CR, rounded down.

This spell cannot force the loss of a slot, spell-like ability or prepared spell with a higher level than its own, but will attempt to affect the highest-level legal option instead. However, this spell can be freely prepared in a higher-level spell slot, or cast using a higher-level spell slot, and is counted as being of that level if prepared in such a way.

Example: If this spell were prepared in a 5th level slot, it would be considered a 5th level spell. If it were used against a 15th level wizard, it would not be able to force the loss of their 8th level spells, but would instead force the loss of a prepared 5th level spell.

If this spell is gained as a spell-like ability, its level is considered to be either equal to 2 or to one-half of the user's CR -1, whichever would give the better result.

Example: A CR 8 creature has this spell as a spell-like ability. It treats this spell as having a level of either 2 or 3 (one-half of 8, which is four, -1).
